From the Papua New Guinea region.
Specialty grade. Less than 3% of the world's coffee scores 84+ on the cupping scale.
This single origin comes from the remote Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea, grown by smallholders on small garden plots and planted to the heirloom Typica and Bourbon varieties. Volcanic highland soil and hard country to reach are part of why it tastes unlike the others — fuller and a little wilder than the Central and South Americans, but clean. Look for dark chocolate, pine, and black tea over a medium body. The cup you take with you, boots on, out past the barn. Roasted medium to develop body and sweetness while keeping its character, and available whole bean or ground. Best brewed as pour-over, French press, or drip. Roasted from certified organic green coffee beans. (We roast in small batches on the farm; Deer Run Acres is not itself a certified organic handler.)
